Exhaust Ventilation Systems
Industrial ventilation systems that vent (exhaust) contaminated air out of the facility utilize one or more of the following components:
Industrial fans / blowers for venting ambient air, (in order to replace dust and fume laden air with fresh air or hot air with cool air) or in connection with source capture devices for venting dust or smoke captured right at the point where it is being generated at the work station to the exterior of the facility.
Source capture devices (ducts connected directly to process equipment to collect fume, smoke and dust) including ventilation hoods, collection arms (also called fume extractors), and even ducted booths or ducted downdraft tables.
Ductwork and industrial hose for safe and efficient carrying of contaminated air from a single or multiple work stations to the outside or to the filtration equipment.
Energy savings systems for centralized ventilation and dust collection systems in which multiple workstations are not always in operation at the same time or rate.
Note that exhaust ventilation systems do not necessarily vent directly to the outside air. Many vent to an external collector to filter dust, smoke, or fume, thus exhausting only clean, filtered air.
Indoor Filtration Systems
Industrial ventilation systems that filter contaminated air, recycling the clean, filtered air within the manufacturing facility utilize one or more of the following components:
Filtration units, including ambient or general air cleaners to create a regular, complete air exchange (whole room air circulation and filtration), dust collectors, and mist collectors. Collection modules are also built into many containment booths and downdraft tables. Note that filtration units have internal blowers to draw the contaminated air into the filters.
Source capture devices, including ventilation hoods, collection arms (also called fume extractors), tables and booths that capture the dust, smoke, or mist and duct them to a filtration unit.
Ductwork and industrial hose for safe and efficient carrying of contaminated air from individual workstations to a central collection unit.
Filters of various types, including media filters for air cleaners and mist collectors, cartridge filters, panel filters, bag filters. Filters are designed to be disposable or self-cleaning, but all must eventually be replaced, whether pre-filters, main filters, or safety after-filters.
Energy savings systems for centralized ventilation systems in which multiple workstations are not always in operation at the same time or rate.
Note that indoor filtration systems provide the added advantage of re-circulating the filtered air, thus saving significantly on costs of heating or air conditioning replacement air.
